2 hours and 20 minutes takes the flight from Santiago to the island airfield. There, passengers embark on a maritime shuttle and -after an hour and a half of trip along the coast- stop in the final destination: Cumberland Bay.
Travel to Robinson Crusoe Island from the start is an adventure. Taking off Tobalaba aerodrome, located at the foot of the mountains in the east area of Santiago, you got into the South Pacific to meet with the dramatic shapes of the islands emerging on the horizon.
Just off the plane, at the aerodrome of Punta de Isla, a land transfer will take the luggage to El Padre Bay, where the marine transfer expects for you. The visitors usually prefer to walk down to the dock, in a refreshing 15 minute ride, enjoying the sea air and a panoramic view to the neighboring island of Santa Clara.
The ship will travel along the south-east coast showing majestic cliffs, loberías (sea lion refuges) and the legendary Puerto Inglés.
The planes travelling to the archipelago are twin-engine turboprop aircraft with capacity for 6 passengers. On special occasions, a Dornier aircraft, with capacity for 16, makes the flight. You can call directly to airlines with regular flights to the island: LASSA (56 - 2) 2735209 and ATA (56 - 2) 2750363.
Also, jets airplanes with capacity for 6 passengers take 1 hour and 20 minutes to reach the island. For private flights (jet or Dornier planes), you can coordinate a special trip directly with Refugio Nautico.
Do not forget to bring sunscreen, windbreaker jacket and shoes for walking trails. Remember, you ar visiting a national park, so bring appropriate clothing allow you to enjoy the full experience.
